LINES

On the death of Lieut Lee Marser, late of the U. S. Marine Corps, who was drown'd on the 7th inst. in crossing a Bridge from Gosport to Portsmouth, Vir.

FAREWELL, dear friend! a long farewell!
For we shall meet no more,
Till we are called with thee to dwell
On yonder happier shore.

Our friend and brother, lo! is dead,
The cold and lifeless clay
Has made in dust its silent bed,
And there it must decay.

But is he dead ? no, no,
he lives;
His nobler spirit flies
To realms above, and there receives
The ever glorious prize.

Then let us dry our willing tears,
From gloomy plaints refrain ;
Honoured our brother stillappears,
In honour's endless reign.

A FRIEND.
