It since appears, by General Howe's orders to the above commander, which have been taken in Jersey, that "all salted and meal provisions, judged to exceed the quantity necessary for the subsistence of an ordinary family, should be considered as a magazine of the enemy, and seized for the King, and given to the troops as a saving for the public."
