HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
[Taken for the Alexandria Gazette.]
SATURDAY, JAN. 5.
A petition of sundry persons of George-Town relative to the opening of the channel of the Potomac, was read and referred to the committee on the district of Columbia.
A report was received from the secretary at war containing a statement of expenditures during the year 1810. Ordered to be printed.
A committee of three were appointed to provide for the safe keeping of the library of Congress. [It is kept in the north wing of the capitol, which is very leaky.]
Mr. Quincy presented the petition of sundry merchants of Boston, praying relief from the operation of the expected renewal of non-intercourse with England.-- Referred to the committee on foreign relations.
The house closed the doors and so continued till a late hour.
The senate did not sit this day.
