Yesterday, as Harry, 15 years old, son of Samuel Altschul, was coming down town, he passed two boys standing on the corner of Center and Mulberry streets. As Harry passed the boys began calling him names, and, not satisfied with this, one of them sneaked up behind and struck him over the head with a stick. Harry turned and grappled with his assailant, and, throwing him on the ground, proceeded to administer a little much needed correction. While thus occupied he felt a sharp pain in his right thigh, but, concluding that his opponent had kicked him, thought no more of it until he arose and felt blood running down his leg. Investigation showed that a knife had been thrust into his leg, making a wound fully two inches deep. Harry went at once to Dr. Barr's office, where his leg was attended to. The doctor apprehends no serious results but says if the wound were a few inches higher it would certainly be fatal. Mr. Clark, the father of one of the boys, called on the doctor as soon as he heard of the fuss to hear the extent of the injuries. He seemed very much grieved over the affair, and probably gave his son reason for being so likewise. The name of the third boy could not be learned this morning. Mr. Altschul will take no steps in the matter, thinking the parents of the boys are troubled enough over it already.

He fought back against one, but was stabbed in the thigh by the other, causing a two-inch deep wound. Treated by Dr. Barr, who noted it could have been fatal if higher.
