Full Text

Accounts from Yarmouth mention, that Mr. Cricket, the Marshal of the Admiralty, with proper attendants, arrived there last week, and took away from the old gaol all the American rebel prisoners but one (who was too ill to be removed) in order for them to take their trials in this metropolis. The mob, upon their removal in three carts, were exceedingly riotous, loading them with execrations, and pelting them out of the town gates with stones, brickbats, &c. by which the officer of the guard was unintentionally wounded on the head. The resentment of the populace was chiefly occasioned by the frequent attempts made by the prisoners to escape, and their public declaration of their wishes to set fire to the town.

Among the above prisoners was one Payne, said to be a native of Yarmouth, where his wife now lives, who was lately master of an American privateer, which took several small vessels in the north seas, the masters and crews of which, Payne is said to have treated with unrelenting cruelty.
