Full Text

One does not like to say "served them right" when the directors of a bank are robbed of $50,000. But there is a strong temptation to say it when they "direct" as they did in the Malta National Bank, near Zanesville, O. Their notion of directing was to make one man cashier, teller and man-of-all-work and leave the entire charge of the bank's affairs in his hands. As he was speculatively inclined and fond of poker he got away with some $50,000; and the fact that he took no more can only be satisfactorily accounted for on the assumption that there was no more to be had. There was nothing in the conduct of the directors to hinder him from taking all there was.
