The Court House was so full that fifty or one hundred persons had to stand. It was one of the most intelligent audiences we have seen, and we were especially gratified to notice that the useless and offensive custom of applauding by rude noises was confined to a very few boys of various sizes—while the fixed attention of the hearers, and their stillness, enabled the speaker to utter every word and sentence fully and distinctly, and were his best encouragement.
The Williamsport ers are very successful and happy in their lectures, which seem to be attended by their best and most active business and professional men. Their plan is, to secure, in advance, by season tickets or otherwise, a sum sufficient to insure their ability to meet every expense, and then grade their course accordingly. They have had some excellent discourses, and more coming.
