LANSING INVENTOR DREAMS OF FAME
Daily Airship Which Is Said to Be Superior to One Constructed by Wrights.
LANSING, June 15.—Several years ago Lansing was made a conspicuous spot on the map by the promotion of the automobile industry, but now a Lansing inventor promises to make the capitol city known the world over by an aeroplane on which he is about to secure a patent, and according to authorities in Washington is much superior to the one invented by the two brothers.
Louis Korff, the inventor of the collapsible casket holder and auto sleigh runner, has constructed a miniature aeroplane during his spare moments and the flying machine made a successful trip on Center-st. about two weeks ago.
In construction it is similar to the machine which made the Wright brothers famous in the world of aeronautics. There are two planes, one placed above the other, with four propelling shafts. When one of larger proportions is constructed it will be about 50 feet long and Mr. Korff says it will be capable of a speed greater than any of the aeroplanes now in existence.
The planes will be made of canvas stretched on a spruce frame and an eight cylinder engine of 40 horse power will be installed. The inventor does not know what the larger machine will cost but he says that he will have it ready for a trial trip next fall and if it works successfully an exhibition will be given for the citizens of Lansing before finally hitting upon the present scheme of an aeroplane Mr. Korff spent considerable time in his little shop at his home, 920 Shiawassee-st. east, and many of the trials were made while the residents of the capitol city were fast asleep. Not discouraged by the failures which would have discouraged many a man, he kept on trying and when he was sure he had at last succeeded in making something that would fly, he carried it under cover of darkness to the Manufacturing company's plant on Center-st. and it was given a try-out.
