Washingtonians in California.
A correspondent of the Portland Standard tells of the whereabouts and doings of former Washingtonians now in California, as follows:
Mr. M. P. Sawtelle is running the Mission Local. As its name implies, the paper is for the benefit of those in that quarter of the city known as the Mission, and is purely a local affair and is doing well.
Mrs. Dr. M. P. Sawtelle, a graduate of the Salem Medical College, has an office on Kearney street, and does a very good business.
W. L. Kidd, formerly pressman for Hines of Portland, is foreman in Carlos White's patent outside establishment.
Wm. Dugan, a printer from Walla Walla, is working on the Alta.
Billy Cook is said to be doing a fine business in his job office.
Mr. and Mrs. Silverman are about leaving for Germany.
Mrs. S. Lord has a cosmetic bazaar on Sutter street, and is doing well.
Fred. Prosch is sticking type on the Call.
The Rickards family are here and intend to remain. Billy Rickards is engineer on a tugboat.
Billy Bowden is manipulating metal in a Clay street printing office.
Charlie Williams is interested in the Ukiah Dispatch.
Oscar Dunbar is managing editor of the Sun, the workingmen's paper.
D. J. Quimby is keeping the Quimby lodging house, on Market street.
Mrs. C. P. Crandall has a medium establishment on Third street, where one is supposed to be able to get any information he wishes by depositing a small fee.
Miss Annie Briggs, of Port Townsend, is at Mills Seminary.
