The statement in the Americus Recorder that a delegation of railroad men had been in conference with President Raoul, and that he had made them the proposition that if the people of Americus would grade the road east from Americus to Flint river or Vienna, and there stop, the Central would iron, equip and operate the road, and would do the same by a road from Americus to Lumpkin, created some remark in railroad circles. The Recorder further stated that the delegation was unanimously in favor of accepting the proposition as it would make the interests of Americus and the Central Railroad the same, and if it be followed up by a spirit of conciliation the Central would aid in building up the city by giving fair and equitable rates.
A Morning News reporter called upon President Raoul yesterday with the inquiry whether the work would probably be carried out as the report of the delegation suggested. Mr. Raoul replied that several gentlemen had called upon him in reference to the construction and equipment of roads; but that, so far as his making any proposition was concerned, he had made none. The delegation had urged the Central's taking an interest in the construction of the proposed roads, and he had said that he would lay the matter before the directors, but nothing further. "In fact," said he, "the Americus people as indicated in the Recorder article, seems to know more about the matter than I do"—Savannah News.
