Full Text

Daniel O'Connell, in a speech lately made in Dublin, abused, in the grossest terms, the slave holders of the United States--denounced all Irishmen who held slaves or countenanced in any way the principle of slavery, and concluded by calling upon all Irishmen who reside in the Slave holding States of the Union, to "come out from among them." On the receipt of this speech in Charleston, S. C., the Repeal Association of that City passed a series of resolutions condemning the violent and uncalled for language of the great Agitator, and after dividing the funds of the Society, (which amounted to a considerable sum, and which they had intended to forward to Ireland in the course of a few days,) between two benevolent Societies of the city, they disbanded and renounced forever all connexion with Repeal and its supporters whilst they remained under the direction, and were guided and governed as now, by the all potent voice of Daniel O'Connell. We admire the course of the Charleston Repealers, ardently as they are attached to the land of their birth, (and what true-hearted Irishman is not?) they indignantly repel interference with the domestic institutions of the home of their adoption.
