NEGRO WOMAN GETS NATION'S TOP HOSPITAL POST, RULES CITY HOSPITALS SOCIAL SERVICE

NEW YORK-(ANP)- A New Englander who is rounding out her 21st year as a civil servant, has reached the apex of her medical career.

Miss Lillian Richards has been named to the directorship of the Social Service Division of Department of Hospitals. She is said to be the first Negro in the history of New York or anywhere else in the country to be so elevated.

She will receive $5,400 a year and will have some 327 social workers of all races in the 33 municipal hospitals responsible to her.

She is a product of the University of Chicago, New York University and the Lincoln School for Nurses.
