Foes of New Deal Charge Destruction of Civil Service.

By all odds the most scathing criticism being made of the New Deal at the present time is that based upon its handling of the civil service, William Bruckhart, Washington expert, says in his column appearing in the Miner today.

The amount of civil service workers employed, Bruckart states, is only slightly more than half that on the government pay roll exclusive of military forces. In fact, Bruckart seems to believe that it is impossible to get an accurate and official picture of just how many people are being employed by Uncle Sam, by what method, and in what capacity.

Whether you always agree with Bruckart or not, you'll find his Washington Digest feature intensely interesting. Washington Digest is history in the making, the tremendous story of our times, our government, and its effort to meet current problems and trends.
