Republicans Plan Picnic At City Park
The political pace is stepping up here with both parties scheduling rallies within the coming weeks. Richland county Republicans will start their bandwagon rolling September 16 when Governor Tim Babcock and other candidates will appear in Sidney for a full day. The Governor and his party will arrive by plane around noon where they will be met by a caravan and a scheduled tour of the city. A 2 p. m. picnic is set for the Sidney City Park. The Republican Central Committee will be furnishing coffee and pop and those attending have been asked to bring their own picnic lunch. Wendell Elliot will be master of ceremonies and present plans call for erection of a platform in the park or in front of the Junior High School facing south. A German band will be on hand to provide music at the Lalonde Hotel and during the picnic. Governor Babcock will give the main address and state and local candidates also will appear on the program. Invitations have been sent to Mel Engles, State Chairman of the Republican Party; Arthur Watson, candidate for the Public Service Commission; E. V. Omholt, candidate for State Auditor; Al Libra and Stanley Doyle, Supreme Court judge candidates and Jim Battin, candidate for Congress. The Richland County Republican Central Committee extends an invitation to county residents to picnic with the Governor and his party and hear the speeches that will follow.
