Vigorous and all-out support for Richard T. Frankensteen for mayor of Detroit is urged on members and locals of the UAW-CIO by R. J. Thomas, International President of the UAW-CIO.
Primary day in Detroit is August 7th.
Labor and progressives are extending themselves to place Frankensteen, vice-president of the UAW-CIO, at the top of the list, and then go down the home stretch in a crushing drive for victory.
We can do it, if need be. There are overwhelming indications, however, that Frankensteen's candidacy will win the support of every voter we can reach, regardless of his affiliations. It is our duty to reach these voters.
VOTE IN PRIMARIES
The support already enlisted by Frankensteen, backed by the Wayne County CIO Political Action Committee, has attracted intense interest in his fight. A full-fledged campaign, with billboard posters, literature and radio programs has been mapped out.
ANOTHER MURPHY
"Dick Frankensteen's candidacy," said Thomas, "presents Detroit labor and all its citizens with the opportunity of a generation. Not since Frank Murphy have we had a mayor who lived up to his responsibilities. We can elect such a mayor again by giving Frankensteen our wholehearted, unstinting support.
"The workers by themselves can do it, if need be. There are overwhelming indications, however, that Frankensteen's candidacy will win the support of every voter we can reach, regardless of his affiliations. It is our duty to reach these voters.
"We cannot raise the funds the opposition will have at its command. But we have the kind of manpower the present incumbent can never command. Every worker doing his duty on primary and election day, and every worker talking to his neighbor, will give Frankensteen a handsome majority.
"Do the first things first. Make certain you vote in the primaries. Talk to your fellow worker, then to your neighbor. The few minutes you will invest in that way will be returned to us a thousandfold by victory for Frankensteen on election day."
