STURM BLASTS RAMEY FOR VOTING AGAINST SCHOOL PLAN

William F. Sturm, seeking the Democratic Nomination for Congress in the Ninth District, yesterday branded U. S. Representative Homer A. Ramey's vote to reduce the Federal school lunch program appropriation as a "vote against the school children of Ottawa and Lucas counties".

Mr. Sturm charged that Congressman Ramey voted to slash the appropriation assisting students suffering from malnutrition despite the fact that the Toledo Board of Education and other township boards urged that he support it.

The Toledo candidate said that reduction of the appropriation from $75,000,000 to $65,000,000 cut the subsidy from 11c to 9c per pupil for daily lunches and "cost city and rural school districts many thousands of dollars".

"In my opinion the welfare of our growing school children particularly those in the thirteen to seventeen age bracket, is one of the most important duties a Congressman has to consider," Mr. Sturm declared. "I challenge Mr. Ramey to explain his vote against our school children".

In his opening campaign speeches. Mr. Sturm pledged that, if elected "I will determine the wishes of the people I represent before voting on any vital issue".

"Congressman Ramey makes no report to the people of Lucas and Ottawa counties when vital questions on which he is to vote arise, and accepts public criticism afterward. I intend to learn beforehand what they want".

Mr. Sturm also attacked the "do nothing policy" of the 80th Congress, pointing out that the legislators evaded the Housing program, Federal Aid for Education, Minimum Wage Standards "and passed very little legislation beneficial to veterans."
