GENEVA. Sept. 20. - The Assembly of the League of Nations today voted down the Spanish government's request for re-election as a member of the League Council.
The country was removed from the council seat, which she has held for years, by nine votes.
A two-thirds majority of the ballots cast, is necessary to declare a member state eligible for re-election.
None of the council seats are permanent. Fifty two states voted on the request that Spain be declared re-eligible for another three year term.
Five ballots were thrown out as defective or blank.
Twenty-three favored Spain, but thirty two votes were necessary.
It was understood that South American delegates opposed the Spanish request for reinstatement.
