Proceedings of the Legislature.

House

The House met at 11 o'clock, Hon. E. W. Moise in the chair. The Rev. J. Woodbridge offered prayer. The minutes of the day previous were read and approved.

Mr. Hirirt offered a resolution for increasing the number of Enrolling clerks--the yeas and nays being called for, the motion was lost--45 nays, 36 yeas.

Mr. [?] offered a resolution to discharge two of the present enrolling clerks and employing two in their stead conversant with the French language--the subject was deferred until to-morrow at 12 o'clock.

Mr. Herman offered a resolution granting the use of the Rotunda to the citizens on to-morrow evening for the purpose of giving a Ball.

Leave of absence was granted to Mr. Wilder.

Mr. Hiestand reported from Judiciary Committee.

Mr. Raney reported from the committee on Public Education.

Mr. Warner reported from the committee on Commerce.

Mr. McMurdo reported from the committee on Finance.

An act was offered for the relief of James Mandeville, State Tax Collector of the Parish of Caldwell--passed.

Mr. Sandridge offered an act to take the Census of the State--referred to the committee on Finance.

Mr. King of Jackson offered a resolution amending the 15th article of the Constitution--referred to committee on amendments.

Mr. Bickham gave notice that he would introduce a Bill to abolish the office of State Superintendent of Public Education.

Mr. [?] an act to take the sense of the people of Carroll relative to the expediency of removing the Seat of Justice of that Parish.

Mr. Warner offered an act for the better organization of the militia--referred to the committee on Militia.

Mr. [?] an act to incorporate the Longwood Institute in the Parish of Caddo--referred.

Mr. [?] offered an act for the relief of E. B. Trousdale, sheriff of the Parish of Union.

Mr. Bush gave notice that he would introduce a Bill providing for the election of Parish Treasurer.

Mr. Humble gave notice that he would introduce a Bill for collecting the licenses on trades and professions.

The House then adjourned.
