Mr Biddle heard of the proposed elopement on Saturday, and he determined to prevent it if possible. On Sunday morning, instead of coming to church as usual, he locked the girl in a room and remained at home. Every five or ten minutes he would open the door and look in to see if she was still there. Mr. Hoffman, a young man, called at the house, and while he and Mr. Biddle were engaged in a conversation, the girl stealthily hoisted a window, leaped out and fled across the fields a distance of several miles to the dwelling of Mr. Daniel Miller, along the National pike, west of Middletown, where, according to previous arrangement, her lover was to meet her. He was there waiting for her with a horse and buggy, and with no more clothing than the short dress she had on, they drove hurriedly to Middletown, where they secured the license that had been brought from Frederick for them by a gentleman, and then resumed their journey to the county seat where as above stated, they were married.—Valley Register, week of Dec. 13.
