BY HER OWN HAND

Mrs. Smith Murray, Wife of a Prominent North Fork Cattleman, Takes Her Life.

Information was brought to Cody on Thursday of the death of Mrs. Smith Murray, by suicide. The particulars of the unfortunate affair are as follows: The deceased, the wife of Mr. Smith Murray, who is engaged in cattle growing on the north fork of the Shoshone river, about twenty-five miles west of Cody, was missed from her home Wednesday, and early Thursday morning her lifeless body was discovered in a small stream, a short distance from her home. From the circumstances it was evident she had taken her own life, as the stream is a very shallow one, the depth of water not exceeding three feet, and an effort on the part of the deceased was necessary to accomplish her purpose. For some time past the unfortunate woman has showed signs of mental derangement and only the evening before the deplorable occurrence she obtained a gun with the avowed purpose of killing herself, and her sad ending was no doubt a clear case of suicide. Mr. Murray purchased the former Bloom ranch, where he and his family, consisting of his wife and two children have lived for the past three years. The deceased was originally from Iowa having married Mr. Murray about nine years since. The sad affair created no little excitement among the people of Marquette, and the ranchers up the river, who knew and greatly respected the unfortunate woman, and whom it is generally believed was insane when she ended her life. Judge Newton, acting coroner, has gone to Marquette to hold an inquest upon the remains.—Cody Enterprise.
