Barbara Warner Elected Football Queen
Contest Winner to be Crowned Tonight
Miss Barbara Warner has been elected Football Queen for the Goodfellows, benefit game this evening. Her court, the four girls receiving next highest votes, will be the Misses Joyce Miller, Vivian DeLano, Theda Helser, Beryl Marble. Ballot boxes were collected soon after the voting ended Thursday evening and standings of all contestants were checked. The final count showed Miss Warner leading with 1710 votes and Miss Miller making a big last day jump to 1300 votes. From this point the voting was graded down to the last contestant in steps comparatively few votes, Miss Delano receiving 590 votes, Miss Heiser 510, Miss Marble an even 500. With the question of the queen settled attention of the committee on arrangements, and of high school football circles turned today to the weather. Rain this evening, or snow, would interfere with ceremonies planned for the five girls chosen, as well as with the game, but all details were complete, according to Jack Shepherd, Goodfellows' chairman. There is a crown and robe for the queen, cars for the royal party and for the mayor with officials of the day, who will ride if weather permits a parade. Regardless of weather however, the royal party will receive prizes. For the queen there are two tickets for the U. of M.-Ohio football game, a big bouquet of 'mums from the Ypsilanti Greenhouse, and a $25 Victory bond. For each of the other winning candidates there will be a $5 Victory stamp. The game tonight is scheduled to start at 8 o'clock. At 6:30 a Pep meeting has been called and at 7 o'clock the parade will form for a short line of march through the business section of the city, south on Adams street from the Central school to Michigan avenue, east to Huron, north to Cross and on to the brightly lighted field for the game and crowning ceremony.
