papers, containing European details, and this accounts
for their not appearing in last evening's
Gazette; to day we are again deprived of the
Paper due from thence, The Printers in N. Y.
and Boston, are earnestly solicited to pay attention
to our complaints on this subject; there is
improper conduct somewhere; whether on the
part of the Printers or Post establishment we cannot
determine.
An alarm having been excited in N. Y. respecting
the Yellow Fever, Dr. Tillary, the resident
Physician, has publicly declared that there has
been but one case lately.
Duane having become notorious for falsehood-
we questioned his having seen the Morning Chro-
nicle of June 25; but it appears he has received
that paper. Our doubts may afford him a profitable
lesson, and we recommend to his perusal the
Fable of the Shepherds Boy and the Wolves, the
Lad became so notorious for falsehood, that he
was not believed when he spoke the truth.
Mr. Nones has sent a long essay to the
Editor of the Aurora, and introduces it with
some remarks, respecting the conduct of the
Editor of the Gazette of the United States.
—As Mr. N. has deviated from a promise
made to me (unsolicited) I shall take no
further notice of his communication. He
has chosen a proper vehicle for the insertion
of his defence, as he calls it,—Were such
silly stuff admitted in this Gazette, we should
next hear of Secretary Vizzle with his defence.
Duane (Billy) gives us to understand
that the Morning Chronicle of the 25th,
came from the same and similar source, with
a farrago hotch potch of lies, about which
he seems very much concerned, that we have
never taken the pains to enquire. It is for
people who doubt to be inquisitive, but the
truth is, we well knew at the time he published
the nonsense, above referred to, that
it was a mere fabrication! Why then should
we enquire any thing about a nullity?
We believe that very ridiculous stories are
very often told to Duane, which he, for
want of capacity to distinguish, mistakes
for truth; but we hold it very unreasonable
in him to expect us and others to believe
them.—Credulity, he may learn it from Governor
M'Kean—Incredulity "is not the prominent feature
of the times."
It is said by a Foreign politician, that Jacobinism
is now writhing in its last agonies.
But the snake must be killed before the
peace of society can be made secure.
