EPITAPH.

STOP, passenger! with reverence view the dust,
For here lies one who ne'er betray'd his trust;
Who gave no hopes but what he wish'd to crown—
True to his friends, did Fortune smile or frown.
Favours receiv'd he never could forget,
And, though repaid, still thought himself in debt.
With wit and sense enough, he never strove
Proudly to shine—except in acts of love.
Reader! how fits this picture to thy mind?
Art thou like him, true, faithful, just & kind?
If not, reform, or hide thy head from shame.
This was a Dog—and Nero was his name.
