Full Text

A writer in the New-Jersey Journal (a democratic paper) on the subject of taxing bank stock, says, that such is the clamor which has been raised against this unconstitutional and iniquitous law, and such the inconsistency of the friends to the measure in the first instance, that the citizens of Newark, who at the late election rejected Messrs. Ward and Day, on the score of their opposition to taxing bank stock, are now holding public meetings, expressing their disapprobation of the present taxing law, and that the very men who were so much in favor of taxing, have now come forward and offered to pay the tax for the Newark bank, the first year, if they will continue business! A striking instance of democratic folly and inconsistency.

It will be recollected that the democrats unanimously voted for the law, and the federalists as unanimously opposed it.
