The New Stock Law.

On our first page we publish the recent Act of the Legislature in regard to fencing in Stock, called the "Stock Law." The people of Rowan, Davie, Cabarrus, Surry, Yadkin, Chatham, Cleaveland, Gaston, Lincoln, Caswell, Rockingham, Forsyth, Wake, Johnston, Davidson, Alamance, Wayne, Randolph, Richmond, Union and Anson, are interested in the Act.

The Act directs that elections shall be held in the counties of Rowan, Davie and Cabarrus on the first Thursday in August next, and if a majority of the voters of the county vote for the Stock Law it shall prevail over the whole county, but if a majority vote against it, it shall only operate in the Townships where a majority was for the law. In the other counties the Commissioners are authorized to order an election on the petition of one-fifth of the qualified voters of each county.
