FRIDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 5, 1832.
Smith's Line of Stages.—Our streets are every day noisy with the rattling of wheels, the cracking of whips, the blowing of horns, and all the other accompaniments of stage travelling; and we ought to take shame to ourselves for not having made before our acknowledgements to those who thus contribute to enliven our town and increase its business.
We are now particularly reminded of this by observing some splendid new coaches added to those which we have been accustomed to see.
We are glad to hear that the Piedmont Mail Route is getting to be decidedly popular. That enterprising and energetic contractor, Wm. Smith, deserves the liberal encouragement of the public, both on account of the real comforts and advantages of his line of stages, and because he has so materially contributed to expedite travelling and render it every way more safe and agreeable. Many of our citizens, who used, in other days, to travel even the short distance to Warrenton, and who now can take a trip up in Smith's stages, can testify to this.
Indeed, we are told the whole line to Georgia, passing as it does, especially in Virginia, through a highly interesting and picturesque country, is conducted in the most satisfactory manner. We wish Mr. Smith every success. It is not with us, and our citizens generally, the least recommendation to Mr. Smith's line, that the Agent here is Mr. Blackburn, than whom no one could be more accommodating, polite and attentive.
