Full Text

Bonaparte alive!—An extract says, "The letters of the Duke d'Angouleme, give the most alarming account of the progress of the desertions. They state that two-fifths of the soldiers, those who have been four and five years in the service, have got a most strange and absurd idea into their heads, that Napoleon is alive, and in Spain, and they are burning to join him. They call him le Mal-Mort. Singular to say, this opinion prevails also among the peasantry—they cannot be persuaded of his death. When you speak to them of it, they laugh slily and incredulously."
