Shocking affair!—We learn, with great regret, that a duel was fought in Powhatan county, a few days ago, between Dr. Branch T. Archer and Mr James O. Crump, which proved fatal to the latter, he being shot through the heart at the first fire. The difference was of a personal character, and it is said the affair was forced, against his inclination, upon Dr. A. We shall give particulars when we receive them—This is the first duel that has been fought in Virginia for a number of years, the laws against it being remarkably severe.
