Frontiers Plan Fuller Support To Community

Increased participation in community welfare, civic progress and economic affairs will keynote the 1956 program of the Atlanta Chapter of the Frontiers of America. Jesse O. Thomas, president, told of the interest of his group as various committee chairmanships were announced. Emphasizing that the slogan of the organization is "Advancement through Service," he said that Frontiers would serve in 1956 to strengthen Atlanta's progress and secure the rights of people. He observed that the Atlanta Frontiers group were men actively participating in the affairs of the community, but through the organization combined abilities to achieve the greatest good for the total citizenry.

The Atlanta Chapter was organized here in June 1955.

Among those appointed chairmen and their committees are: Clarence Coleman, Public Affairs; James W. Hawkins, Business and Professional Standards; Dr. R. A. Billings, Finance; Harry L. Alston, Service Projects; Dr. Charles L. Shorter, Vitiligo; H. S. Murphy, Attendance; Charles H. Wilson, Jr., Classification and Membership; Robert R. Moton, Jr., Program; and H. J. Furlow, Luncheon.

Mr. Thomas also said that the Frontiers had completed a survey and initial study of an Economic Conference which is scheduled for the last week in January. Tentative plans include participation with the college community.

Members of the Economic Conference planning committee are Harry L. Alston, P. D. Davis, Jr., Dr. Charles L. Chisholm, Clarence Coleman and Robert R. Moton, Jr.
