"Very great preparations, and those of the most splendid kind, are making for the court's journey to Chersonne, where the empress will be crowned sovereign of the new acquired dominions. The sovereign Pontiff and six others, besides a number of inferior clergy, will assist at the ceremony, which will be performed about the middle of July next. The court will go first to Moscow in May: where they will repose a month or five weeks, and then set forward for Chersonne. Six regiments of cavalry, and twenty-two of infantry, are under orders to that quarter, to attend on this august ceremony, as well to preserve tranquility, as to add to the splendor and magnificence of the Spectacle. Presents to a very large amount are also getting ready to be given to some august and honourable personages, who are expected to be present; and no doubt there will be visitors from all parts of Europe. The expense is set down at seven millions of rubles, the greatest that in peace this empire has ever known."
