Full Text

Mr. Clay's party in Kentucky, or, as they are sometimes called, the "New Election Party," have lost ground at the last state election. The Lexington Reporter acknowledges that "changes have taken place, and the new election side may probably have lost a few more votes than it has gained." This looks rather unfavourably for the Presidency, at least in the United States. As Mr. Clay's speech is said to have been printed and circulated, and read, with great avidity and applause in South America, perhaps the author would stand a better chance for an election there.
