CHICAGO, May 22.-Owing to the
fight in progress among the trans-continental
roads over passenger rates for the
National Educational Association's
convention in Los Angeles it is said the
rates to Colorado points will be cut
in two and that the affair will probably
bring about an extensive Western rate
war.
All the Western roads have replied to
inquiries sent out by the Chairman of
the Western Passenger Association notifying
them that they will not make any
reduced rates for students returning to
their homes for the summer vacations.
A call was issued today for another
meeting of Western lines to resume the
consideration of the immigrant question
and the proposed revision of the Western
Passenger Association agreement
where it was left off at the adjournment
of the meeting last week. The adjourned
meeting will be held next Thursday by
which time it is hoped all the roads will
have reached a definite conclusion as to
the course to be pursued.
Western roads have agreed to cease
making any reductions from the Missouri
river to California for the transportation
of volunteers returning to
their homes. This arrangement will go
into effect June 1st. At the same time
it is expected that Southern Pacific will
put into effect the same arrangement
from New Orleans.
