The latest accounts from Spain state that a party, which appears to be extended through many of the provinces, are meditating the elevation of the Infant Don Carlos to the throne, under the name of Charles Fifth. This party is understood to be composed of a part of the priesthood, and their adherents, and to have been formed in consequence of the danger to which the revenues and treasures of the church are exposed by the extreme poverty and distress of the government. The King is in a state of the most absolute bankruptcy, and until some change shall take place, has no prospect at all of an improvement in his affairs. With an empty treasure, a constant demand for the expenses of his government and household, a great and increasing creditor in France, and the failure of all former sources of revenue, he would be pitied by the world if he had not too much merited their indignation.
