The Legislature Tried to Fix It
PRESCOTT—Yesterday the house was on its ear and abolished the office of commissioner of immigration by a vote of 22 to 1. The bill was sent to the council, where it was read the first time, when Foster moved that it be sent to the committee on territorial affairs, amended by Drane to send it to the ways and means committee. In the house in a few days there will be a bill to abolish the office of superintendent of public instruction; and another bill to cut off the fees of the governor's private secretary. Few of the members are in favor of increasing the extra session salary of the judges. Oliver presented a petition in the council from citizens of Williams protesting against the division of Yavapai county.—Feb. 1, 1887.
