A FEW MORE FACTS.
Washington territory has nearly two thousand miles of railroad. She has two cities of twenty thousand each (Tacoma and Seattle) and one of ten thousand (Spokane Falls). She has a score of growing towns of from one to five thousand population. She supports a university and five colleges. Her sea-going commerce is surpassed in volume only by that of the five or six great ports of entry on the Atlantic coast and by San Francisco on the Pacific coast. Her population is more than nine-tenths of American birth and is drawn from the educated, energetic classes of all the states of the Union. She has nearly twice the number of inhabitants required by the last apportionment for a representative in Congress. She is attracting more people westward than is any state or territory west of the Rocky mountains. Her wonderful resources have been heralded abroad until she is known from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and from the great lakes to the extreme south, and as a result thousands are pouring into her borders and seeking homes. Eastern exchanges are lamenting and daily chronicling the departure of their substantial citizens, who are headed for our territory. Capitalists, as well as the man with moderate means, are immigrating. People have become tired of the worn out land of the East, where they are only eking out a precarious existence, and propose to try the fertile lands of the "new northwest," where the soil rewards the tiller and where the word "failure" is not recognized--a country at present embracing 9,000,000 acres of wheat land with an average yield of 40 bushels per acre.
