In Washington, on the 12th instant, at her residence, 438 K street, northwest, of pneumonia, Miss REBECCA HARMON, sister of C. P. Harmon, late deceased.
2d—Rev. C. Robinson,—[From the Sumner Tribune.]—The gentleman whose name heads this article is out in a card in the Alexandria Gazette of December 6th, denying certain facts—which appeared in this paper of last week. He started out by saying that he intends to refute the charges which we made against him: but instead of doing this he lets his feelings get so deep into the matter that he succeeded in doing little else than abusing the writer of the article in question, and admitting that it was partially true, which is sufficient for us to know, that he admits any part of what we said to be correct. because we thought that his soul was so small and his conscience so seared that he would never admit anything which had the remotest appearance of truth. However, we want to say here that we did not speak of his business transactions, or of this man as a huckster, but simply spoke of his acts as a professed Christian, and when he says that he has not stood as the advocate and apologist of a midnight pilferer and thief. he knew and said what was not true, and what is more God knows it. too We know that this individual is so accustomed to tyrannize over a body of innocent, helpless and illiterate women that he has forgotten that when he enters a broader field for a contest that there are blows to receive as well as blows to give, and thus he will find it. One other thing. too, we want to say that it is a well established fact in Alexandria that this man, Thomas Lewis, was caught at an hour of the night, when he supposed no mortal eye beheld him, with wood which was not his own; and it is also well known to the members of the different churches of Alexandria that this Robinson has never allowed this man to be excluded from the church, notwithstanding it was the desire of a majority of the members that he should be expelled. This he don't call encouraging pilfering and thieving; then we leave it for reasonably honest people to decide what it is. Just so we succeed in unearthing and properly placing before the world such hypocrites as this man Robinson. we will have done the people a great and lasting service. It is also well known by men of experience that it is the guilty party who always raises his immaculate hands to heaven and prates loudest about his honest efficiency and innocency. He says he thinks the writer of the article "closely allied to the hand that attempted to assassinate him at a dark hour of the night" As to this we can only say that we are of the opinion that a good caning or a decent cowhiding would have a much better effect than clandestinely attempting to injure him in any way. He says that the council of which we spoke, assumed "an untenable ground." Thus: the egotist sets himself up as the sole judge of his own wrong doing. We wish to be understood as fully prepared to substantiate, at any time and place, all that we say.
