Full Text

There is a talented young Irishman in Cincinnati named Gibbons, who, though not heretofore a Whig, has deemed it a duty to his adopted country to enlist in the Scott ranks. Being a good speaker he has been induced by the urgent solicitations of friends to take an active part in the present canvass, and in so doing he has incurred the displeasure of the Cincinnati Enquirer, the organ of Locofocoism in Southwestern Ohio, which lets no opportunity pass of abusing him—calling him an "apostate," and applying to him every opprobrious epithet in its Billingsgate vocabulary. The abuse of the Enquirer does not seem, however, to have much effect upon Mr. G. as will appear from the following note addressed by him to the editor of that sheet:

TO THE EDITOR OF THE ENQUIRER—Sir:

I most cheerfully accept the name of Apostate from the corruptions of Locofocoism. You could not do me a greater favor than to say that I am an Apostate from the ranks of the rotten party to which you belong. If you would like to know, I can inform you that you can find thousands of such Apostates in this city and county.

J. F. GIBBONS.
