MAN GITHENS IN KANSAS

Man Wanted Here For Breaking Parole Arrested at Washington, Kans.--Forged Check

Clarence Githens, a barber, formerly of Diller, who was arrested at Blue Springs January 7, 1915, on a charge of forgery, and who, after pleading guilty, was paroled in district court by Judge L. M. Pemberton, upon condition that he remain in Gage and Jefferson counties, has been arrested at Washington, Kans., and will be returned to Gage county for sentence, having broken the terms of his parole.

Githens, according to the complaint filed against him, appeared at the store of R. J. Harris at Holmesville, where he passed a check for $8.60 purported to be drawn on the Blue Springs bank by John Collins, a prominent farmer residing east of Holmesville. The check was drawn January 2, 1915, and was made payable to C. O. Collins. The check proved to be a forgery, and a complaint was filed against Githens, who was arrested a few days later at Blue Springs.

He pleaded guilty when arraigned before Judge Pemberton, and a strong plea for leniency was made by his wife, who stated that he was needed to care for her and her children. Githens himself appeared to be penitent and asserted that he would lead a different life if given another chance. On these promises he was paroled by the court.

Later it was alleged that he had another wife at Red Cloud, who afterwards secured an annulment of her marriage, not caring to prosecute Githens.

Sheriff Acton and County Attorney Messmore have been trying to locate him for some time, however, since he broke his parole, and will return him to Beatrice just as soon as requisition papers have been secured.
