LAND TRANSFERS NEAR A MILLION

Deeds Filed With County Recorder Show Banner Record for March.

FARMS ALONE ARE INCLUDED IN LIST

Total Reaches 6,764 Acres of Ground Used for Agricultural Purposes.

The amount of money involved in the farm land transfers which have been filed with L. E. Cawley, county recorder from March 1 up to and including March 10, is not far from the million dollar mark. The amount to be exact is $941,884. The number of acres of Wapello county land which has changed hands is 6,764, which makes the average price about $138 per acre. These figures show that the first ten days have been very busy ones in the office of the county recorder. This month of course is always the busy month for the recorder of deeds, but the present time promises to even eclipse the former records. Last year at the close of the thirty-one days of March the average price per acre showed up near the $120 mark, so according to the figures for the first ten days, this year will go beyond 1913 in the price of Wapello county land also. The county recorder stated this morning that all deeds in which the sums given are $1 and other considerations, love and affection, etc., are not counted in the figures which he has compiled: only those in which definite monetary terms are given have been counted. No small tracts or garden lands near any corporated town or city in the county have been listed either. All are open farm lands. The year 1914 in the recorder's office has seen forty-five more instruments for the transfer of lands filed than last year. Today's sales show that C. E. Walker and Ida Walker have sold 119 acres to H. W. Peak for $17,255. J. L. Emmett of Chicago, has transferred to W. A. Lewis 200 acres for $20,000 and 200 acres have been purchased by J. L. Emmett of J. A. Strader for $16,000. Joseph E. Buchanan has purchased eighty acres from Alexander and Ida Lynch for $12,400. Eighteen thousand dollars is given as the consideration for which G. M. Clark and Mamie Clark have sold ninety-three acres to J. W. Parks.
