We would inform our brother of the Boston Transcript, and all others subject to mail afflictions, that old Sorrel is in good health, and always ready to "do the state some service." We can't spare him though to carry the news to Boston, as we talk here of making him Postmaster General. There is no doubt he would work better than the present one.

Nota Bene.—2 P. M.—We are this moment informed that in consequence of the boat Charter Oak having broken a shaft, the Old Bolivar is to be replaced on the line tomorrow—so that our Boston friends may take a trip to Nahant and a view of the Sea Serpent while they are waiting for the news. They say Amos Kendall has come within a thousand dollars of making a bargain for having the mail carried regularly, both sides "marking under a hat."

The steam holds on, and we guess Amos will come to at last. Perhaps, however, it will finally be left to Mr. Van Buren to enjoy the "glory" of making a compromise. It is certain the mail question will never be settled till it is known how many votes can be bought by it.
