Of the story of Mary Ryan, who died in Bellevue Hospital on Saturday, that she had been beaten by a policeman who arrested her on Wednesday night. Policeman Henry Gregg said yesterday: "I was going down Seventh avenue with Policemen Young and Evanhoe. When near Twenty-fourth street we saw a crowd around a woman lying on the sidewalk. She was bleeding from a cut on her face. With the assistance of Young, I carried her to the station. It was then 6:15 in the evening. She was drunk, and it was all we could do to take her to the station. Her daughter saw her there, and the mother then did not complain of cruel treatment."
