The proposition made by the Wilmington City Railway Company to the residents along Market street from Tenth street to the limits of the city near Riverview Cemetery, is one well worthy of favorable consideration by the citizens. At the rate at which improvements have been progressing lately there can be no doubt that the new line would be placed on a paying basis as soon as constructed. Besides this the subscribers to the stock would not only have the benefit of increased value for their property, but they would be entitled from the start to a share of the dividends arising from the profits of the original line of the Wilmington City Railway which is on a paying basis. The cost of the Ninth Ward extension is about $13,000 of which $8000 is understood to have been for some time past, more than a year already subscribed without even the inducements now offered. The opportunity of becoming stockholders in a company already on a paying basis, and which gives fair promise of paying large dividends in the near future, should be sufficient to insure the speedy subscription of the additional $5000 needed to make the enterprise a complete success. We hope the citizens along the proposed new extension line and those not residing on the line but holding property thereon, will immediately move in this matter and make up the little deficiency needed, and then ever before the heat of next summer, the road will be completed, and our citizens who visit Riverview cemetery in such large numbers, instead of having to trudge through the dust of summer and snow and mud of winter, can ride nearly up to the gate in comfortable street cars.
