LAST NIGHT'S DISPATCHES
Important from Washington and the Army.

New York, Nov. 10.—The Herald has a rumor that Seward and Blair are opposed to McClellan's removal. Also that Gen. Hunter is appointed to command an important military expedition now preparing, whose destination is a secret.

General Hunter takes the field to-day as second in command to Burnside.

Advices from Sigel's headquarters state that the rebel General Hill's forces are at Port Royal, making down the valley. A portion of Miles' rebel cavalry has been captured at Aldie, by the cavalry of General Stahl. General Bayard's cavalry captured Lieutenant-Colonel Blunt, of Longstreet's staff, beyond Warrenton on Friday evening.

The 8th Illinois and the 8th New York cavalry entered Culpepper on Friday, capturing two pieces of artillery and several prisoners. The rebels retreated towards Gordonsville, followed by our advance.

Our forces are pushing on with the greatest rapidity. A general engagement it is said cannot long be delayed.

The Tribune's Washington dispatch says Lee arrived at Richmond a fortnight ago, and his whole army about the same time crossed the Rappahannock.

The same paper says the French Minister declares that there is not a word of truth in the report that dispatches of a threatening nature have been submitted to him to the State Department.

A dispatch to the Herald from the Army of the Potomac says: The enemy has retreated to Gordonsville, and will be ready there to fight.

The President notifies all who call on him that he won't modify or withdraw the emancipation proclamation.

Parties are endeavoring to get through a general Bankrupt Act, which is intended to meet the exigencies of the times.

The Sunday Chronicle makes the startling announcement that recent investigations of the most unexpected character are the cause of the action of the Administration in the premises. This is regarded as a sensation, for McClellan's friends have known for weeks that all efforts to prevent his removal were simply futile. Rumor is rife as ever that this is to be followed by the removal of Stanton and other changes in the Cabinet, but with the exception of the probable voluntary retirement of Secretary Smith, there is good authority for saying that none are contemplated at present.
