CLEANUP WORK CONTINUES ON
STREETS WILL BE "FLUSHED"
ONE WEEK BEFORE FIESTA,
STATES O'SWEENEY

With the Overseas Highway Celebration less than three weeks off, there has been less than fifty percent of the unsanitary conditions caused by trash and debris remedied, according to Adrian O'Sweeney, chairman of the cleanup committee for the celebration.

"We anticipate", O'Sweeney stated this morning, "using at least one full week in flushing the streets just previous to the opening of the fiesta which leaves us only approximately eleven days in which to get all lots cleaned up.

"In surveying what had been charted out for last week's work I found several families unable to stand the cost of having the debris carted away to the city dump, and to simplify matters this committee will take the responsibility of having all trash carted away, providing the owner or the occupant of the property is financially unable to pay for the same. This does not mean that we are taking their word for it, as it has to be proven before we will go to that expense".

All residents and property owners in the section of the city lying south of Division street from North Beach to Whitehead and west of Whitehead, who are unable to stand the expense of carting, are requested to put their trash out to the curb in containers and the committee will have it carted away to the city dump.

In conclusion, O'Sweeney stated, "We must have a clean city for the celebration . . . and we are going to have one".
