NEW RECORD SET BY COMMERCIAL PLANE, CALIF. - MIAMI RUN

MIAMI, Fla., May 23.—(AP)—A Lockheed Constellation of the Eastern Airlines spanned the continent in six hours, 49 minutes and 26 seconds to set a new California-to-Miami speed record last night for commercial aircraft.

The huge four-engined passenger ship, officially timed by the National Aeronautics Association, clipped five minutes and 31 seconds from the record established only last Saturday by another Constellation.

Capt. H. O. Hudgins of Miami piloted the plane on its non-stop flight from Burbank, Calif., at an average speed of about 348 miles per hour and at an average altitude of 23,000 feet.
