A MANIAC LOOSE.
He Brandishes a Knife and Foams at the Mouth.

There was a young man rushing up and down the streets at the Park place yesterday about noon. He held a knife in his hand a la brigand, and brandished it over his head while he foamed at the mouth as if from supreme rage. People fled from him in terror and soon the streets were cleared of all excepting a few daring fellows who ventured to approach the infuriated maniac. They closed upon him, threw him to the ground, wrested the knife from his grasp, and held him transfixed. The man struggled with the strength of a demon, gnashed his teeth, while his eyes glared with the fire of madness. After some little time his rage seemed to subside, and he became submissive and docile, when he stated to his captors that he was from the poor farm. He stated that he is subject to these singular fits, which seize him generally once a day. He was taken to the City Hall by Officer Mullins, and in the evening was removed to the poor farm.
