Texas.—The Texas Legislature has passed an act to provide for an agricultural and geological survey of the State; and another to provide for the boring of artesian wells between the Nueces and Rio Grande.

The Christian Advocate, referring to the Texas Almanac for 1858, says, that Texas, in proportion to population, is undoubtedly the wealthiest State in the Union. The total population is about 500,000, and the assessed value of property is $183,594,205, which is an average of $367 to every man, woman and child, and over $3,000 to every voter.
