NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW
COLLEGE PARK, Oct 2—Joseph
Hoopes and Charles R. Davis, of Bel
Air, and Chauncey Ahalt, of Middle-
town, have been selected as the team
to represent the State of Maryland in
the Junior Dairy Cattle Judging Con-
test at the National Dairy Show in
Chicago, October 8th.

This announcement was made to-
day by G. E. Wolcott, specialist in
dairying for the University of Mary-
land Extension Service, who was in
charge of the dairy cattle judging con-
test for agricultural boy club members
at the Timonium Fair, and who has
since been aiding in training and se-
lecting the team which will go to Chi-
cago to compete with similar teams
from many other States

The three boys chosen to represent
Maryland are the pick of forty-eight
boys from all parts of the State, who
were entered in the Timonium con-
test. Out of the forty-eight, six se-
lections were made from which the
final team of three was chosen. They
are all sons of farmers and well
known dairy cattle breeders, and are
under eighteen years of age.

During the past few weeks the boys
have been studying types of some of
the most famous dairy herds in the
State in company with Mr. Wolcott
W. C. Snarr, assistant County Agent of
Harford county, and Louis McLane
Merryman, president of the Maryland
State Fair and Agricultural Society, of
Baltimore county. These were the
guests of Mr. Merryman for three days
during their training, and also visited
the fine herds of Dr. Dickenson Gor-
such, of Timonium; Charles E. Rei-
man, of Towson; Dr. Herbert Hoopes
and Gladden Davis, of Bel Air; Sher-
mantine and Brown and W. B. Kemp.
Of Glencoe; Burnside Farms, at Ee-
cleston; Brookland Wood Farms, at
Lutherville, and concluded their train-
ing with an inspection of the famous
herd of Holsteins at the National Sol-
diers' Home, in Washington

The expenses of the boys to Chicago
will be paid by the Timonium Fair of-
ficials, who offered the trip as one of
the prizes in connection with the State
contest. They probably will leave Oc-
tober 6th for Chicago, accompanied by
W. C. Snarr.
