Annual Farm Picnic To Be Held Saturday

Several Hundred Expected at Recreation Area Near Bittinger

Several hundred farm people and others will head for the Pleasant Valley Recreation area on Saturday, July 25, for the annual county-wide farm picnic, arranged by farm organizations and the extension service.

John I. Carter, county agricultural agent, said the program would get under way at 10 o'clock with a contest in tractor safety and maintenance. This contest will be under the direction of James McHenry, assistant county agent, with eight assistants.

Following a picnic lunch at noon there will be brief introduction of guests. The Farm Queen for this county will then be selected. This is under the direction of Miss Ida Engle and the Associated Women

of the Garrett County Farm Bureau.

Judging of dairy calves will then take place with Mr. McHenry and leaders in charge. Miss Ethel Grove, home demonstration agent, will have the dress review of 4-H girls and exhibits of the club members will be judged. Members of the Garrett County Older Youth club, headed by Bill Stanton, will be in charge of recreation and will also operate an ice cream and soft drink stand. Prizes are to be awarded for games winners.

Mr. Carter said some $250 in awards would be distributed to winners in the other contests.

The county-wide farm picnic has been held for the past dozen years or more and annually attracts anywhere from seven hundred to a thousand people.

Miss Grove announced to her club members that exhibits are to be brought in from 9 to 10:30 a. m., EST. at the recreation pavilion. Girls may enter as many classes as they like, but only one entry in each class. Girls are to model their own clothes in the dress review. They may model school outfit, sports outfit for play or work, dress outfit, tailored outfit and party dress.
