On Saturday last arriv'd here, Capt. Nelson, from Bristol; by whom there are Letters of the 8th and 29th of June, which say, they expect War will be proclaimed in London, against Spain, the next Day: But Capt. Nelson did not leave Bristol 'til the 8th of August, and War was not then proclaimed. That there was a very hot Press for Sailors, in the several Sea-ports; and that 150 Men were press'd at London, in one Night.
The Seventh of July there was held a Board of Admiralty, when the Lenox of 70 Guns, the Lyon and the Superb of 60 Guns, and the Portland of 50 Guns, were put into Commission; and the following Bomb Ketches were taking in their Carriage Guns, Swivels and Mortars at Woolwich, viz. the Salamander, the Terrible, and the Alderney; and were to sail with the Worcester, Defiance, Stafford and Oxford of 50 Guns, in order to join Admiral Haddock in the Mediterranean.
